Power BI Monitoring for Azure Synapse Analytics
Azure Synapse Analytics combines data integration, data warehousing, and big data analytics in a single workspace. For data teams, that means Synapse Pipelines move data, Synapse Dedicated Pools store it, and Power BI reports on top of it. When a Synapse pipeline fails — or when a query against a Dedicated Pool times out — the downstream Power BI datasets that depend on that data either fail their next refresh or silently serve yesterday's numbers. MetricSign connects to the Synapse REST API and monitors pipeline runs across your workspaces. Pipeline failures are correlated with downstream Power BI and Fabric dataset refreshes, so you see the full chain: Synapse pipeline failed at 02:30, dataset refresh started at 04:00 from stale data, report users saw wrong numbers at 09:00.
What you can monitor
- Alert on Synapse Pipeline failures and correlate them with downstream Power BI dataset staleness
- Track Synapse pipeline run durations and detect when pipelines are taking longer than their baseline
- Monitor dedicated pool query health and surface slow-loading datasets in Power BI
- Get a single incident when a Synapse pipeline failure causes multiple downstream datasets to serve stale data
- Replace manual cross-referencing of Synapse Monitor, Azure Monitor, and Power BI activity logs
How MetricSign helps
MetricSign vs alternatives
Existing tools like Azure Monitor, Synapse Studio Monitor hub, Azure Log Analytics, Synapse native alerts are built for their own domain — not for connecting Azure Synapse Analytics failures to downstream Power BI report health. MetricSign bridges that gap: you get one incident feed that covers both layers without switching between dashboards.
