ModelRefreshDisabled_CredentialNotSpecified
What does this error mean?
The dataset refresh failed because credentials for one or more data sources have never been configured in Power BI Service. The dataset was published from Desktop but the credentials setup step in Service was not completed.
Common causes
- 1A dataset was published for the first time and the 'Configure credentials' step in Power BI Service was skipped
- 2A new data source was added to the model in Desktop and the dataset was republished without adding credentials in Service
- 3Credentials were removed during a gateway reconfiguration and the binding to the dataset was lost
- 4The dataset was migrated to a new workspace and credentials were not re-entered in the new context
How to fix it
- 1Open the dataset in Power BI Service → Settings → Data source credentials
- 2Each unconfigured data source will show a warning icon — click 'Edit credentials' for each one
- 3Choose the correct authentication method (Basic, OAuth, Windows, or Anonymous) and enter valid credentials
- 4Save and trigger a manual refresh to confirm the credentials are accepted
- 5If the data source uses a gateway, also ensure the gateway data source in Manage gateways has credentials configured
